UK expands Disabled Persons Railcard eligibility

The UK rail industry has expanded eligibility for the Disabled Persons Railcard to include more passengers. As of September 30, individuals with long-term impairments, health conditions, or neurodivergence that are expected to last at least 12 months and significantly impact their ability to use rail services can now apply.

Eligibility is determined by the impact of a condition on travel ability rather than diagnosis alone. Applicants must provide a report from a health professional or a completed impact declaration form signed by a qualified health or social care professional. The railcard offers a one-third discount on rail tickets for the holder and one adult guest.

This change follows a review by the Rail Delivery Group, the Department for Transport, and the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee. The expansion aims to reduce barriers to travel and improve accessibility as the industry moves toward the establishment of Great British Railways.
