UK expands simplified student visa scheme to include Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia

The United Kingdom has updated its student‑visa guidelines, adding citizens of Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia – among a broader list of countries – to a differential evidence requirement that allows them to submit a visa application without providing proof of funds at the initial stage. The policy is presented as a documentary concession, not a waiver of the financial eligibility rules.

Applicants under the scheme must still be able to demonstrate sufficient funds for tuition and living costs, and UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) may request evidence before a decision is made. Nigerian students are not covered by the new concession and are expected to provide full financial documentation. The current maintenance requirement remains £1,529 per month for courses in London and £1,171 per month elsewhere, up to nine months (equating to £13,761 and £10,539 respectively).
