UK Export Finance signals £5 billion capacity for Mauritius
UK Export Finance (UKEF) has indicated a market risk appetite of at least £5 billion to support economic and industrial development in Mauritius. This financial capacity is intended to assist Mauritian companies in investing in modern equipment, boosting local production, and expanding export activities.
Official details clarify that the £5 billion figure is not a reserved fund or an automatically accessible envelope for local businesses. Instead, it represents the level of financial exposure UKEF is willing to consider for transactions that meet its specific criteria.
Rajesh Jeetah, Mauritius’ High Commissioner to the UK, stated that the priority is now to convert this capacity into concrete economic initiatives, commercial partnerships, and projects that create sustainable value. Potential opportunities include strengthening domestic manufacturing through investments in British technologies, such as robotics, precision machinery, and automated systems, to reduce import reliance and serve regional markets in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
