UK FCA to launch daily equity market data as it pushes consolidated tape reforms

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will begin publishing a daily summary of trading activity in UK‑listed equities, with the first release slated for Friday. The rollout will be accompanied by a year’s worth of historical trading data, giving investors a clearer picture of market volumes across multiple venues.

In parallel, the FCA has unveiled a package of equity‑market transparency reforms that confirms the framework for an equity consolidated tape to be delivered within 18 months. The package also launches an interim market‑activity reporting tool for shares, offering daily visibility of overall UK equity market activity while the full tape is developed. The reforms aim to reduce fragmentation, improve price formation and boost confidence in the market.

Industry voices have weighed in on the tape’s design. London Stock Exchange Group chief executive Julia Hoggett urged caution on including pre‑trade data, citing concerns about market abuse and competition. FCA executive director of markets Simon Walls highlighted the need for broader, easier access to market‑wide information to support investors and maintain market resilience.
