UK fire safety petitions prompt calls for action

A Glasgow MP has started a petition to reverse the planned closure of Yorkhill Fire Station, arguing that the loss would increase emergency response times and endanger local communities. The petition cites the station’s long history since 1971 and urges the Scottish Government to keep the service open.

Separately, a separate petition signed by nearly 4,000 people is urging the UK government to ban the sale of single‑use disposable barbecues, linking the products to a rise in wildfires across the country and highlighting concerns about public safety, wildlife, and waste.

Both petitions are being forwarded to Parliament, with the first targeting regional fire‑service restructuring and the second seeking nationwide legislation on disposable BBQ sales.
