UK firms urged to overhaul email signatures amid rising cyber threats

Companies are being advised to conduct rapid email‑signature audits to ensure legal compliance and brand consistency. The audit process includes sampling emails from various departments, checking rendering on desktop and mobile clients, verifying required company details under UK disclosure regulations, and comparing older and newer signatures to spot drift. Larger organisations may need dedicated signature‑management systems rather than manual updates.

At the same time, traditional email security solutions are no longer sufficient. Attackers now use stealthy, AI‑generated business‑email‑compromise messages that evade legacy spam filters and signatures. Compromised accounts can bypass perimeter defenses, sending trusted‑looking phishing emails from within the organisation. Experts recommend moving beyond inbound gateway checks to continuous monitoring of account behaviour, such as unusual login locations or spikes in outbound mail, and adopting more advanced, cloud‑aware security controls.
