UK food and drink firms adopt solar panels to curb energy costs
Food and drink manufacturers, warehouses and distribution centres across the United Kingdom are increasingly installing rooftop solar to reduce reliance on the grid, lower electricity bills and improve sustainability. The move is driven by volatile energy prices linked to Middle‑East conflict, pandemic disruptions and other global uncertainties.
Installer Fusion 360, led by Commercial Director Joanne Skinner, reports growing demand from large commercial estates, noting that extensive roof space makes factories and chill warehouses suitable for photovoltaic systems. Fusion 360 recently upgraded Aldi’s regional distribution centre in Bathgate, Scotland, replacing over 4,000 panels with newer technology to generate self‑produced, lower‑cost power.
Industry analysts say commercial solar offers protection against rising electricity costs, supports environmental targets and delivers long‑term return on investment for businesses with high daytime energy consumption.
