UK food inflation: Baked beans on toast sees highest price rise
Research from financial firm Updraft indicates that baked beans on toast has experienced the highest rate of inflation among the UK's 100 most popular dishes, with costs rising by 33 per cent since 2016.
An analysis of own-brand baked bean prices across major UK supermarkets shows significant variation. Morrisons and Lidl offer the cheapest budget tins at 27p, followed closely by Asda and Tesco at 28p. In contrast, Waitrose sells own-brand tins for 55p, more than double the price of the cheapest options.
The study also tracked the average cost of a weekly shop based on ingredients for popular dishes, estimating that the cost has risen from £23.10 to £30.70 per person, representing an annual increase of nearly £1,600 for a single individual.
