UK fuel prices surge as diesel exceeds £2 per litre

Fuel prices in parts of the United Kingdom are rising sharply, with diesel exceeding £2 per litre in several locations. In Essex, a Murco garage near Braintree has reported diesel prices of 209.9p per litre, marking the first time such levels have been seen since the 2022 surge. Unleaded petrol prices are also increasing, reaching their highest points since September 2022.

Similarly, on the Isle of Wight, diesel has surpassed the £2 mark at multiple stations. The Ashey Road Garage near Ryde has recorded prices of 209.9p per litre, while other stations in Sandford and Freshwater are also reporting costs above 200p. These increases represent a significant jump from earlier this year when diesel was frequently priced below 160p.

The upward trend in costs is attributed to global conflicts, specifically escalating tensions in the Middle East between the US and Iran, which have led to rising oil prices and supply disruptions.
