UK Government announces economic growth funding for Scotland
The UK Government has announced significant economic investments for parts of Scotland through the Local Growth Fund.
West Dunbartonshire is set to receive a share of a £22.7 million investment designated for the Glasgow City Region. This funding is part of a three-year plan aimed at supporting job creation and improving living standards in low-income areas. Local MP Douglas McAllister noted the potential for investment at specific sites, such as the Exxon site in Bowling and the Carless site in Old Kilpatrick, to provide skilled local employment.
Separately, Ayrshire has been allocated £11.8 million to boost its local economy through 2029. The investment plan focuses on community infrastructure, business innovation, and skills development. The funds will be managed by the Ayrshire Regional Economic Partnership, which includes local councils, Ayrshire College, and the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce. Initial actions include expanding apprenticeship opportunities and supporting start-up businesses.
