UK government announces youth service recruitment and job creation initiatives
The UK government has announced several major investment initiatives aimed at youth support and workforce development. As part of the £500 million Youth Matters National Youth Strategy, the Labour government plans to recruit 1,000 new youth workers across England. These workers will be deployed to local authorities to support young people who are not currently accessing services, aiming to intervene before they reach a crisis point.
In parallel, the Chancellor has introduced a package to bolster employment and skills. The National Wealth Fund is projected to support the creation of 130,000 jobs by 2030 across sectors such as clean energy, defence, and technology. Additionally, the Union Learning Fund will be restored with an annual allocation of £15 million to assist in skill building.
The advanced manufacturing sector will also see a significant boost through a £300 million investment from Rolls-Royce. This funding will be distributed across several UK facilities, including £140 million for engineering services in Derby, £90 million for upgrades in Bristol, £43 million in Glasgow, and £19 million for turbine blade production in Rotherham.
