UK Government invests £287 million to boost apprenticeships
The UK Government is investing £287 million to expand technical education and support apprenticeships as a primary route for youth employment and economic growth. The initiative includes creating over 22,000 additional places across colleges and post-16 providers, including sixth form colleges and 16-to-19 academies.
To reduce financial barriers for students, the government is providing bursaries of up to £4,500 per year per household. Local employers, such as Equans, are highlighted for providing practical pathways where apprentices can gain formal qualifications and hands-on experience in fields like quantity surveying and gas engineering while earning a wage.
