UK government launches AI job‑seeker assistant and sovereign AI model

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced a new AI‑driven job‑seeker assistant that will be trialled online for three months, offering 24/7 career guidance, a CV‑builder feature and a “jobcentre in your pocket”. The tool is part of a broader commitment to ensure no community is left behind in the tech revolution and will be complemented by AI training programmes for disadvantaged schools.

At the same London Tech Week event, Starmer unveiled the £400 million sovereign AI programme, backing the development of Britain’s first frontier AI model, “Lumen Sovereign”. The model will be trained entirely on British infrastructure using the Isambard supercomputer and is supported by major firms including BT, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, BAE Systems and others. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on foreign AI providers, enhance security and create domestic AI capability for sectors such as cybersecurity, anti‑money‑laundering, legal review, health administration and clinical trials.
