UK Government launches employment drive for neurodivergent people
The UK Government is launching a major initiative to increase employment rates among neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other conditions. This drive follows an independent report from the Expert Academic Panel on Neurodiversity, which suggests that neurodivergent people can succeed in the workplace when provided with tailored support based on individual needs rather than just a diagnosis.
Statistics from 2024/25 indicate that only 34 per cent of disabled people with autism were in employment, compared to 55 per cent of disabled people overall. Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden stated that providing the right support is beneficial for individuals, businesses, and the economy. The government intends to utilize the ‘Connect to Work’ specialist employment programme to provide dedicated pathways for those facing barriers to employment.
