UK health agency warns of heatwave risks and rising measles cases for summer travellers

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has urged residents to look after neighbours during an expected heatwave, advising people to stay out of the sun between 11 am and 3 pm, use high‑protection sunscreen, keep homes cool by closing curtains and opening windows at night, and seek medical help for signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

At the same time, UK officials have warned that measles infections are climbing in six European tourist hotspots – France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Romania and Bulgaria – after the UK lost its "measles‑free" status. England recorded 754 cases between January and May 2026, the second‑highest in Europe, while Romania reported 767 cases. Health authorities stress the need for two doses of the MMR vaccine, noting vaccination coverage in England has fallen to 84%, well below the 95% threshold needed to prevent outbreaks.
