UK heat pump installation costs could rise £2,000 due to brand choices amid new grant scheme

Passiv UK’s analysis finds that relying on established heat‑pump brands can add up to £2,000 to a homeowner’s installation bill compared with newer, comparable manufacturers paired with advanced controls. The company says its Smart Thermostat, compatible with 17 manufacturers and verified by the Energy Saving Trust to boost efficiency by 17%, offers a way to lower overall costs while improving comfort.

At the same time, Ofgem has announced a 13% increase to the UK energy price cap from July 2026, pushing the average annual household bill to £1,862. To help reduce reliance on expensive grid energy, the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme now provides a £2,500 grant for eligible air‑to‑air heat pumps, with up to £7,500 available for other air‑source and ground‑source systems. Solar PV installations are also promoted as part of a whole‑home approach to energy efficiency.
