UK heatwave triggers fuel advice and modified road gritters

The Met Office has issued a series of heat‑wave warnings for England, forecasting temperatures as high as 40 °C and an amber weather warning for extreme heat. The AA warned drivers to fill up with petrol or diesel before 9 p.m. on Saturday, 27 June, and to check tyres, coolant, oil levels and warning lights, while carrying water and a charged phone.

In North Staffordshire, the county council activated four “modified gritters” equipped to spread granite dust on road surfaces to reduce stickiness caused by soft bitumen. Councillor Patrick Allen said the dusting vehicles are ready to be deployed as temperatures approach 33 °C, and urged motorists to limit trips, stay hydrated and protect themselves from the sun.
