UK Home Office whistleblower alleges 99% of asylum claims are fraudulent

A whistleblower within the UK Home Office, identified only as “J”, has alleged that as many as 99% of asylum claims made to the British government are fraudulent. The individual, described as an experienced asylum decision-maker who has assessed thousands of claims, claims that many applicants use recycled or coached back-stories to secure approval.

According to the whistleblower, the Home Office culture creates an incentive to approve applications rather than deny them. It is reported that approving a claim can take as little as thirty minutes, whereas rejections are more time-consuming and difficult. The whistleblower further alleged that staff are encouraged to treat asylum seekers as “customers,” providing a service rather than serving the country.

Specific examples of alleged fraud include hundreds of claimants using identical letters of support or using photographs from the same closed London venue to substantiate claims. While recent approval rates have decreased to approximately one-third, the whistleblower suggests the vast majority of those being absorbed into the country are through fraudulent means.
