UK households could save on energy bills by adjusting boiler settings
Research from the foundation Nesta suggests that approximately 7.5 to 8 million UK households could save nearly £60 annually by adjusting the flow temperature of their combi boilers. By lowering the central heating flow temperature to 60°C or below, boilers can more efficiently reuse heat that would otherwise be wasted through the flue.
Nesta indicates that combining this adjustment with five other free measures—such as turning off pre-heat facilities, reducing thermostat temperatures to 19°C, and adjusting thermostatic radiator valves—could save households up to £220 a year. These recommendations aim to help consumers offset rising energy costs following the October price cap increase.
While the savings are significant, experts note that the advice may not apply to every boiler and that some rooms may take longer to warm up at lower temperatures.
