UK households set for busiest moving day of 2026
Friday, 28 August 2026, is projected to be the busiest moving day of the year in the United Kingdom. Analysis from HomeOwners Alliance and reallymoving estimates that approximately 22,904 households will relocate on this day, which is nearly four times the typical daily average of 6,000 moves.
The forecast is based on an analysis of over 750,000 removal quotes. Data shows that August has been the most popular month for moving home for the past 14 years. Fridays are the most common day for relocations, accounting for 29% of all moves, while Sundays account for only 5%.
Experts advise those moving during this peak period to book services early and prepare contingency plans. Paula Higgins, chief executive of HomeOwners Alliance, suggested that moving on quieter weekdays could offer better value and less pressure. Rob Houghton, CEO of reallymoving, emphasized the importance of detailed surveys to ensure removal companies provide the correct vehicle and team size for the high demand.
