UK infrastructure upgrades cause road and rail closures

Cadent is replacing 320 metres of ageing gas pipe with new plastic piping in Elmstead Market, Essex. The work requires closing Church Road between Holly Way and the Colchester/Clacton Road junction for six weeks, from 17 August to 21 September, with signed diversion routes in place to maintain safety and minimise disruption for local homes and businesses.

Network Rail is conducting final testing of digital in‑cab signalling on the East Coast Main Line ahead of the £1.4 billion East Coast Digital Programme. The tests will affect passenger services south of Peterborough between 20:00 on 29 August and 08:00 on 31 August, with rail‑replacement buses and temporary LNER services to Bedford provided for affected travellers.
