UK Labour MP Sarah Sackman urges removal of Union Jack flags from Barnet lampposts

Sarah Sackman, Labour MP for Finchley and Golders Green and Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services, demanded that Barnet Council take down Union Jack flags that had been affixed to public lampposts in north London.

She said the flags are “unsettling, intimidating and othering” and act as symbols of division and intimidation. The flags were installed without permission since September and remained during King Charles III’s visit and the World Cup. Her comments have drawn backlash and revive a High Court injunction that previously barred English and British flags on public infrastructure.
