UK launches AI bootcamp pilot to combat youth unemployment
A pilot AI bootcamp program has launched in North West England to combat youth unemployment among those not in work or education. The initiative, part of the government’s TechFirst AI Apprenticeship Pathway, provides up to 70 young people aged 16 to 21 with three weeks of intensive training.
Participants will learn to build AI tools, understand business applications, and practice responsible technology use. The curriculum also includes essential workplace skills such as professional communication, teamwork, and timekeeping. The program is being delivered by IN4 Group in partnership with various businesses and public sector organizations.
Participating companies, including Heinz, JD Sports, and BAE Systems, will offer apprenticeships to help graduates transition into the workforce. This pilot is intended to refine a larger, England-wide AI skills scheme that the government plans to roll out next summer.
