UK local authorities conduct drainage clearing to reduce flood risks

Local authorities in the United Kingdom are conducting extensive drainage maintenance to mitigate flood risks ahead of the autumn and winter seasons.

In Essex, Essex Highways cleared more than 74,000 drains between April and August, marking a 20 per cent increase in volume compared to the same period last year. The preventative measures include the use of high-pressure jetting units and CCTV surveys to identify infrastructure issues.

In Thurrock, maintenance crews in Tilbury cleared 130 drains on Lansdowne Road and Darwin Road following resident concerns. During these works, the council identified wider network issues and engaged with Anglian Water to address infrastructure under the utility company's responsibility.
