UK local councils launch consultations on library and archive services
Local authorities in the United Kingdom are launching consultations to determine the future of their library and archive services.
In London, Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have introduced a dedicated survey to gather feedback from residents and community partners. The eight-week initiative aims to identify service priorities and shape the direction of local libraries and archives. The councils will also host engagement workshops to discuss community needs and aspirations for these spaces.
In Bedford, Bedford Borough Council is considering three development options for the Bedford Central Library. The council is exploring whether to move the library to the Howard Centre, relocate it to the ground floor of its current building, or remain in its existing location while improving facilities. The project may be supported by up to £4.5 million from the Local Regeneration Fund.
