UK local councils launch Stoptober smoking cessation support
Local authorities in England are launching initiatives to support the national Stoptober smoking cessation campaign.
In Warrington, the Borough Council and LiveWire’s Smokefree Team are offering free advice and practical support through a series of drop-in events throughout October. These sessions will be held at various locations, including Warrington Market, The Gateway, and Birchwood Shopping Centre, to provide residents with expert guidance to help them quit smoking.
In North Northamptonshire, the council has relaunched its stop smoking service under a new identity called ‘The Quit Hub’. The service offers 12 weeks of free behavioural support from dedicated advisors, along with Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) delivered directly to residents' homes. The initiative aims to address local smoking prevalence, which currently stands at 13.1%, higher than the national average, in alignment with the government's goal for England to become smoke-free by 2030.
