UK local councils launch transport and road safety consultations

Local councils in England have launched consultations regarding future transport and road safety improvements.

In Morecambe, Lancashire County Council is seeking feedback on proposed safety measures for a three-mile stretch of the A5105 coastal road between Morecambe and Bolton-le-Sands. Funded by a £920,000 grant from the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Fund, the project aims to reduce injuries to pedestrians and cyclists. Proposed changes include new cycle lanes, improved pedestrian crossings, updated road markings, and new parking restrictions to enhance visibility. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2027.

Separately, Shropshire Council has opened a consultation on its draft Local Transport Plan, which will guide transport policy and investment from 2027 to 2037. The plan covers various modes of travel, including cars, buses, trains, cycling, and walking, while also considering digital solutions to reduce travel necessity. The council is hosting online webinars and in-person events to gather input from residents and businesses.
