UK medical team completes earthquake relief mission in Venezuela

The United Kingdom Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT) is concluding its six-week mission in Venezuela following the devastating double earthquake on June 24. Operating from a field hospital in Caraballeda, the team treated approximately 3,000 people, including children, pregnant women, and those with serious injuries or illnesses. The mission also provided dental care, mental health support, and mobile clinics for remote communities.

Upon completion, the UK will donate all medical equipment, supplies, and medicines to local health centers. This donation, valued at nearly $1 million, includes enough medication to treat 10,000 people for three months.

In a separate act of solidarity, a 10-year-old British girl named Maud raised £1,000 through a bake sale of Venezuelan-inspired treats. These funds will be channeled through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to support earthquake victims.

The earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, resulted in at least 6,125 deaths. The World Bank estimates direct physical damages at $19.6 billion, warning that slow reconstruction could impact Venezuela's economic recovery for a decade.
