UK Met Office warns upcoming rain won't solve drought

The Met Office has warned that upcoming rainfall in the United Kingdom is unlikely to resolve drought conditions immediately. While some regions are expected to receive their first meaningful rain after a summer of heatwaves and dry weather, meteorologist Aidan McGivern noted that the precipitation will be “highly hit and miss from place to place” and will not arrive in “huge amounts.”

Forecasts indicate that Northern Ireland, western Scotland, and central Scotland may experience frequent showers, heavy downpours, hail, and thunder. In England and Wales, showers are expected to be more variable, with heavy rain possible in northern England and north and west Wales.

Temperatures are expected to drop below average across much of the UK on Thursday. Despite the relief of incoming showers, forecasters cautioned that the weather will likely become drier again over the weekend.
