UK ministers consider removing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from succession
The UK government is considering legislation to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The investigation pertains to his tenure as a UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011, amid allegations that he may have shared confidential information with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
Mountbatten-Windsor, who remains eighth in line to the throne, is reportedly living in isolation at the Sandringham Estate while the probe continues. Although he has not been charged and is not legally barred from traveling, royal officials have advised him to maintain a low profile.
Political figures from both the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative Party have called for his removal from the succession once the police investigation concludes. Such a move would require an Act of Parliament and consultation with other nations and territories that share the monarchy.
