UK Ministry of Defence launches £2bn Light Mobility Vehicle procurement

On 31 July 2026 the UK Ministry of Defence issued a tender notice to competitively assess, select and award a contract for new Light Mobility Vehicles (LMV) to replace legacy fleets such as Land Rover and Pinzgauer. The competition is valued at about £2 billion (excluding VAT) and will run from 31 May 2027 to 30 May 2036, with optional extensions that could carry it to 2047.

The contract will deliver a Common Base Platform supporting nine vehicle variants – General Purpose, Battlefield Ambulance, Tactical Mobility, Utility, Enhanced Protection, Command and Control, Equipment Support, Troop Carrying and Mission Systems – with the potential to field more than 9,500 vehicles. It includes long‑term support services and excludes Chinese suppliers under the Procurement Act 2023. Requests to participate close on 1 September 2026, after which up to seven suppliers may be invited to tender.
