UK motorways M5 and M6 closed after HGV accidents cause spills and delays
A heavy goods vehicle jackknifed on the northbound carriageway of the M5 near Droitwich, spilling diesel across all lanes. National Highways announced the road was closed between Junction 5 and Junction 4a, creating about ten miles of tailbacks and delays of up to 45 minutes. Motorists were directed to a diversion via the A38 and M42.
Separately, an overturned lorry on the northbound M6 in Warwickshire between Junction 2 and Junction 3 forced a closure of that stretch. National Highways reported four‑mile queues and delays of around 40 minutes, with a diversion routed through the A46, A45 and A452. Both incidents involved emergency services and traffic officers managing the scenes.
