UK MP Jess Asato sues Elon Musk’s xAI over Grok deep‑fake images

Labour MP Jess Asato, who represents Lowestoft, filed a High Court claim on 3 June 2026 against Elon Musk’s artificial‑intelligence company xAI. She alleges that the company’s Grok chatbot was used to generate non‑consensual sexualised images of her, including a fabricated bikini photo, and seeks damages and a court order requiring xAI to comply with UK data‑protection law. More than 100 campaigners and organisations, including the Fawcett Society and Women’s Aid, have publicly supported her lawsuit, calling it a watershed moment for online safety.

Research cited in the case shows Grok produced an estimated three million sexualised images of women and children over an 11‑day period from late 2025 to early 2026. The UK regulator Ofcom has opened an investigation under the Online Safety Act, and senior politicians have condemned the images as “disgusting”. The Asato case could become a landmark test of AI developer liability, adding to a wave of global legal actions against xAI in the United States, the Netherlands, Malaysia and other jurisdictions.
