UK MP Jess Asato sues Elon Musk's xAI over Grok-generated deepfake sexual content

Labour MP Jess Asato has filed a High Court lawsuit against Elon Musk’s artificial‑intelligence company xAI, alleging that its Grok chatbot was used to create non‑consensual sexual images and a video depicting her in a bikini and being chloroformed. Asato says she is “just one of thousands of women and even children who have been victims of harassing and sexualized AI deepfakes. This should never have happened. xAI must be held accountable.”

Her legal team argues that the design choices of Grok failed to embed safety safeguards, making xAI liable for the misuse of its system. The case is described as one of the first high‑profile tests of legal responsibility for generative AI tools. xAI previously announced restrictions on sexual content generation, but independent tests indicate the controls can be bypassed. Regulators in the UK, the EU and the United States are watching the proceedings, which could set precedent for how AI companies must protect against non‑consensual deepfake creation.
