UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi urges reopening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor

UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has called for the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor during a visit to Punjab. Dhesi suggested that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) propose the reopening to the government to facilitate visits for devotees. The corridor's services were suspended on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack.

During his visit, Dhesi met with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhwan. He also discussed issues affecting Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with Punjab ministers, specifically advocating for increased direct international air connectivity from Amritsar and Chandigarh to the UK and other nations to support trade, business, and tourism.

Dhesi emphasized the need for greater international coordination between India and countries such as the UK, Canada, the US, and Australia to address challenges faced by the Indian diaspora, including transnational criminal activities and security concerns.
