UK MPs demand action over Royal Mail delivery delays
Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom are calling for urgent action regarding Royal Mail service failures following reports of significant delivery delays. MPs, including Steve Darling and Martin Wrigley, have raised concerns in Westminster Hall, alleging that undelivered post has been hidden in sorting offices to obscure service issues.
Delays have reportedly caused residents to miss vital appointments, including time-sensitive NHS communications, benefits decisions, and financial documents. In one instance, a delay of three weeks prevented a resident from paying a reduced parking fine within the required window.
In Exeter, MP Steve Race has met with the watchdog Ofcom to address dozens of complaints regarding postal reliability. While Royal Mail has acknowledged that service levels in certain areas like Exeter have not been sufficient, the company maintains that service quality is improving due to recruitment and operational changes.
