UK new home registrations fall by 13% in third quarter

New home registrations in the United Kingdom fell by 13% in the third quarter compared to the previous year, according to data from the National House Building Council (NHBC). Total registrations dropped to 26,231, down from 30,279 in the third quarter of 2025.

Private sector registrations decreased by 8% to 18,359, while registrations in the rental and affordable sectors saw a sharper decline of 23%, falling to 7,872. The NHBC noted that affordability pressures and supply-side barriers are contributing to a shrinking pipeline of new properties.

In response to market challenges, the Government has introduced the ‘Your First Home’ initiative. This scheme aims to assist first-time buyers by allowing for a 2.5% deposit, with the Government providing an additional 20% loan toward the property cost. Further details regarding income and property price caps are expected in the upcoming Budget.
