UK NHS trusts implement digital upgrades to streamline patient care

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has upgraded its electronic patient record (EPR) system, introduced robotic process automation (RPA) in the intensive care unit, added ambient voice and PACS improvements, and refreshed core IT infrastructure. A £7 million technology fund enabled a new maternity EPR that meets national early warning standards, while an AI oversight group was created to evaluate emerging technologies.

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust has launched a digital appointment service that sends automated text and email reminders, aiming to cut missed appointments that previously accounted for 6.4 % of bookings. The platform also supports video consultations and plans to expand to secure digital letters, allowing patients to manage appointments online and reducing paper use.

Both trusts highlighted the benefits of faster, more efficient communication with patients and staff, and the potential for future digital innovations across NHS services.
