UK-owned Consolidated Pastoral Company tops Australian corporate landholdings
The UK‑owned Consolidated Pastoral Company (CPC), backed by billionaire Guy Hands, has completed the purchase of Madura Plains near the Western Australia/South Australia border. The transaction cleared Western Australian government pastoral‑lease checks and settled this week.
Combined with the Rawlinna property, which CPC bought in 2025, the new holdings give CPC control of more than 6.2 million hectares of land. An additional offer for the 314,000‑hectare Arubiddy station is awaiting final WA approval, which would raise CPC’s total Australian land ownership to roughly 6.53 million hectares, slightly ahead of the Australian Agricultural Company’s (AACo) 6.5 million hectares.
CPC now manages about 400,000 cattle, 50,000 goats and over 40,000 sheep, while AACo, Australia’s largest beef producer, reports a herd of 482,000 cattle. Law firm Piper Alderman advised the former owner of Madura Plains and represented Jumbuck Pastoral on the Rawlinna sale.
