UK Parliament members call for support for Iranian democratic movement
British Members of Parliament have called for increased international support for the Iranian people's pursuit of democratic change during a conference at the UK Parliament. Speakers, including Bob Blackman, Sammy Wilson, Stephen McCabe, and Jim Shannon, argued that the Iranian people are engaged in a struggle for freedom against a repressive theocratic government. They emphasized that the movement for political change is an internal effort rather than a foreign project, citing the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as an organized democratic alternative.
Concerns were raised regarding the escalating use of executions as a tool of political repression and the need for accountability for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). MPs urged the UK to move beyond mere legislation to ensure practical measures prevent IRGC-connected individuals from benefiting from activities in Britain.
Humanitarian concerns were also highlighted, specifically regarding the deteriorating conditions for women prisoners in Iran. Reports indicate severe overcrowding, denial of medical care, and unsanitary conditions, such as sewage flooding in the recreation yard at Fardis Prison in Karaj. Advocates have called for urgent international action to protect women detainees from these systematic violations of their fundamental rights.
