UK Parliament motion reaffirms India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir

A motion has been tabled in the UK Parliament to reaffirm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of India over Jammu and Kashmir. The Early Day Motion (EDM), sponsored by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, marks Jammu and Kashmir Accession Day, which commemorates the 1947 execution of the Instrument of Accession by Maharaja Hari Singh.

The motion expresses sympathy for civilians and security personnel killed or injured in acts of terrorism within Jammu and Kashmir, including in Pakistan-occupied regions. It specifically notes with sadness the continued targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits, stating that members of the community remain vulnerable to terror and intimidation.

Additionally, the motion highlights the importance of strong bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and India and acknowledges the cultural and social contributions of British communities of Jammu and Kashmiri heritage. It calls for constructive dialogue and respect for international norms and sovereign boundaries.
