UK-Peru cooperation benefits 2 million people through resilient infrastructure

The United Kingdom Reconstruction Support Programme (UKDT) has benefited more than 2 million people in Peru through the development of climate-resilient infrastructure, according to program director Iñigo Ruiz Apilánez.

Operating under a government-to-government agreement with Peru's National Infrastructure Authority (ANIN) since 2020, the initiative focuses on education, health, and flood control, particularly in the northern region of the country. Key achievements include the construction of 71 schools serving 44,067 students and 9 high-complexity health facilities providing care for over 1.2 million people.

Additionally, five integral solutions have been implemented to protect 760,745 citizens from the impacts of rain and flooding. Ruiz Apilánez noted that the schools were completed in an average of 2.5 years, significantly faster than the traditional 5-year state model. The program aims to deliver higher quality, climate-resilient infrastructure within shorter timeframes.
