UK petition calls for lower State Pension age to boost youth employment
A petition calling for the UK government to lower the State Pension age has gathered thousands of signatures. Created by Helen Grice, the campaign argues that reducing the pension age would encourage older workers to retire, thereby creating job opportunities for young adults who are currently unemployed.
The petition states that longer working lives result in fewer available positions for the younger generation. Proponents suggest that lowering the age would benefit both demographics: providing employment for young people and allowing older citizens to enjoy retirement sooner.
The petition, which launched on June 25, 2026, remains open until December 25, 2026. It requires 10,000 signatures to trigger a government response and 100,000 signatures to be considered for a debate in Parliament.
