UK petrol price set to reach 160p per litre as Iran conflict pushes oil higher

The Royal Automobile Club warned that petrol prices in the United Kingdom are likely to hit 160 pence per litre this week, with diesel expected to rise to 180 pence. The increase follows renewed fighting in Iran, which has driven up global oil prices. RAC head of policy Simon Williams said the rise is “inevitable” and that the outlook for drivers is grim, urging motorists to fill up before Friday. Since the start of July, petrol has already risen by more than 6.5 pence per litre and diesel by 9 pence, adding roughly £3.50 and £5 respectively to the cost of filling a family car. Williams added that a short‑term pause in hostilities is unlikely to curb the price surge, and only a sustained drop in oil prices would ease pump costs.

The RAC also recommended using free apps such as myRAC to locate cheaper fuel, as the elevated prices are expected to persist while the conflict continues.
