UK pledges $1 billion and £290 million to boost Ukraine's recovery

The United Kingdom announced a new tranche of financial support for Ukraine at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy confirmed a $1 billion package, approved by the World Bank, that will unlock more than $4 billion of additional financing for hospitals, schools, and other public services. The funding will also support private‑sector investment, economic growth and job creation.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper unveiled a separate £290 million package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and justice reforms. The energy component includes a £210 million deal with British uranium supplier Urenco to supply nuclear fuel to Ukraine’s power company Energoatom. Additional funds will back renewable‑energy projects, modernise the justice system, and support anti‑corruption initiatives. The UK now totals about £5.6 billion in non‑military assistance to Ukraine since the 2022 Russian invasion.
