UK police release men arrested near Welford military base

British police have released five men on bail following their arrest near the Welford military base in Gloucestershire. The men, all London residents over the age of 20, were detained on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack and committing explosives-related offenses.

The incident occurred after reports of three suspicious white vans near the base, which is used by both the Royal Air Force and the United States Air Force. During the investigation, 85 households in the nearby village of Welford were evacuated as a precaution. While materials found in the vehicles were identified as ‘useless explosives’, the investigation into potential foreign involvement remains ongoing.

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the decision to release the suspects, stating, ‘I wouldn’t have done that.’ Iran has denied any involvement in potential plans to attack the facility. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Andy Burnes has called an emergency meeting of senior officials regarding the matter.
