UK police renew £20,000 reward hunt for 1981 murder of Vishal Mehrotra
Police in the United Kingdom have launched a fresh appeal for information in the unsolved murder of eight‑year‑old Vishal Mehrotra, marking the 45th anniversary of his disappearance. The boy vanished on 29 July 1981 while walking along Upper Richmond Road in Putney, London, on the day of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding. His remains were discovered seven months later, on 21 February 1982, in Alder Copse near the village of Rogate.
The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for anonymous tips that could lead to an arrest and conviction. Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore said two comprehensive reviews have examined new forensic techniques, but no evidence has identified the perpetrator. The case, investigated by the Metropolitan Police and Sussex Police, remains open. Vishal’s sister, Mamta Mehrotra, has paid tribute to her brother and urged anyone with information, however small, to come forward.
