UK post office dress code controversy goes viral
A woman in the United Kingdom, known on X as Lily, claims she was asked to leave a post office because her attire was deemed inappropriate. The incident occurred during a period of high temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius. Lily stated she was wearing a black, off-the-shoulder dress, rather than revealing swimwear.
Staff reportedly informed her that she could not wear off-the-shoulder clothing in the future and must remain covered. A sign at the entrance of the establishment reportedly prohibited ‘topless, off-the-shoulder’ clothing or ‘excessive exposure,’ requesting that customers wear a top before entering.
The post gained significant traction online, receiving millions of views. In response to the viral post, the post office issued an apology and confirmed they had contacted the independent shop owner. The controversial sign has been removed ‘for now.’ While independent owners in the UK can set dress codes, they must comply with British laws regarding indecency.
