UK Pride Festivals Showcase Community Unity and Funding Issues

Thousands gathered in Folkestone on 25 July 2026 for the town's ninth annual Pride festival, featuring a daytime parade, live performances and an evening after‑party at the Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse. Organisers described the event as a success in creating a safe, visible space for the LGBTQ+ community.

In Truro, Pride organisers faced reduced funding from the National Lottery, which limited the main stage to a small gazebo. Operations director Aaron Monk expressed concern over rising hate speech, saying he was "afraid to hold his husband's hand in public, even as a white cis man who isn’t overly camp" because of the boldness of homophobes online and in person. Both events highlighted ongoing community enthusiasm while underscoring financial and societal challenges faced by Pride celebrations in the UK.
