UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham says rescue dog Axel will stay in north, not move to Downing Street

Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed that his rescue dog, Axel, will not be relocated to Downing Street. In a BBC interview he explained that the bichon‑frise‑poodle cross "wouldn't get on with Larry," the famous resident cat of No 10, and therefore will remain in the north of England.

Burnham added that moving the dog could disturb the cat’s world and joked that the nation might not thank him for it. He also spoke briefly about his family, noting his father's Alzheimer's diagnosis and his mother's supportive words after his appointment as Prime Minister.
